She did it. The phone call that congratulated her on yet another promotion and yet again she was in transition within two short years. It was what she wanted and her swift acceleration into a stronger leadership role came with new opportunities to build herself into who she wanted to be and give her the space to create how she wanted to live.
The space we spend our time in infuses motivation, wellness, joy, curiosity, and productivity into our mind and body. We are directly affected by the sounds, smells, and feels of our environment, so design your workspace with intention.
Designing a workspace that nurtures health, comfort, and creativity is essential whether you work from home or in an office setting. Leoluna gives you three fundamental rules of design to consider when setting up your personal workspace:

Rule 1: optimize openness and organization
Our workspace affects the calmness and organization of our mind, so design your space with an open layout.
- Position your desk and chair with a view of entryways and windows, so you have extended visibility beyond your computer screen. This also helps at home where you can see your kiddo coming through the door before entering into the background of your meeting video.
- Utilize closed forms of storage for a decluttered look and store away non essential items. The 1,000 paperclip jar can be put in a drawer, promise.
- Try a minimalism approach when it comes to furniture and wall hangings. A framed degree is a moment of displayed accomplishment, but your walls should be mostly clear. Long narrow desks give you plenty of workspace without being bulky and keeps the open feel.
An open and organized workspace keeps our mind calm and focused with the feeling of having the ability to breath and move freely.
Rule 2: prioritize comfort and functionality
The office gets more of our time than anywhere else in home or workspace. We log hours of attention and energy, so health is prioritized through comfort and function.
This means setting up your desk, chair, and computer in a way that supports your body and promotes good posture. In a single word, ergonomics.

- Chair: Choose a chair that provides good lumbar support and allows you to adjust the height so that your feet rest flat on the floor.
- Desk Height: Your desk should be at a height where your elbows can comfortably rest at a 90-degree angle when typing. Technology gives us the option of adjustable height desks that transition from sitting to standing measurements with a click of a button.
- Monitor Position: Position your computer screen at eye level to reduce strain on your neck and eyes. If you have multiple computer screens, angle them inward so you can smoothly adjust between the two.
Our mind functions in direct correlation with how good our body feels. To optimize productivity in a balanced way, invest in your work wellness with furniture and setup that promotes posture protection and sustainability.
Rule 3: bring the outside inside
How lighting affects our mood, mind, and energy is real. So many of us suffer from winter sadness (yes, it is a real thing) and many of us spend the majority of our time inside without exposure to nature. Incorporate both components within your workspace.

- Lighting: Play around with where in your workspace you want direct light and indirect light. Direct light is like a spotlight, best for reading and notetaking. Indirect light is more dispersed upward which makes the space feel more illuminated.
- If you have the luxury, windows are the best form of lighting because it’s natural. The second best option is buying light bulbs that simulate natural light.
- Plants: Indoor plants not only benefit our inside spaces with reduction of air pollutants and toxins, but plants in the workspace are known to reduce stress and improve mood. Make a habit of talking to your plants and naming them; they will grow stronger and bring beauty to your work environment.
Follow Leoluna’s 3 rules of design by having an open office space with supportive furniture, natural elements, and organization. With a primed space for creating, building, and sharing, work is meaningful and stimulating. We all have the drive to mentally and physically labor towards something to accomplish. Make the space you need to be fulfilled and live the life we seek.
