What Is Social Strolling And Why It Is A Must In Any Season

She wanted to hang out with her friends who lived miles up the road.  Her mom told her to walk but she hated walking; it took too long, was brutally boring, and blistered her feet in flip flops.  The start was long but the destination was worth it, and when her friends suggested walking to the park, she tagged along with ease.

A Fitness Trend Worth Trying

We are capable of healthy independence and it feels empowering to accomplish big and small tasks on our own, but sometimes our mind and body need the motivation from others to motivate ourselves.  With a movement that feels natural and approachable, social strolling is the fitness trend worth trying.

Yes, fitness trends can be annoying and initiate skepticism from anyone to a “couch potato” to a “gym rat.” Labeling social strolling as a trend attracts attention and presents the activity as something new and worthy. It is a worthy activity but it is nothing new. We have been social strolling since childhood; the difference is we practice the habit as adults with intention and mindfulness.

Connection through primal movement

One of our biggest accomplishments occurs within the first couple years of life.  We learn to crawl, walk, and then run.  Our bodies are engineered to walk and its function not only gets us to places we want to go but also mobilizes every part of our body.

It is an all inclusive activity that is integrated into our daily lifestyles.  With many occupations and tasks requiring technology and a stationary setting, walking with friends and/or family connects us back to our most fundamental meaning of movement.

Intentional bonding of body and mind

When we walk alone, our thoughts are within us and we may be gripping the dog’s leash, blasting music through earbuds, and/or tracking our pace and distance.  All of which are great intentions yet can distract from your mind bonding with your body.

With social stolling, the intention isn’t to accomplish an exhaustive workout, it’s to walk casually and comfortably with good company.  Your body and mind are equally stimulated which builds bonds between the mental and physical experiences.  Wanting a higher level of social strolling? Prioritizes health and relationships

We fully recognize and understand that life is a packed schedule of tasks we must do and things we want to do.  We are busy, tired, rushed, and stressed, therefore prioritizing checking in with those who are most loved and valued can feel pressured.

Social strolling is a way to relieve the pressure of committing to an activity that requires planning, squeezing into compression leggings, or chugging a pre-workout shake.  All you need is an outdoor space, comfy clothes, and engaging conversation to get the benefits of a primal movement we were made to do.  Integrating walking and talking on a weekly basis is believed to release endorphins, stabilize blood sugar, increase mobility.

Our steps lead us to new discoveries in the body and mind so we can walk through this life with memories and strength.  To build the life we seek, our connections, not only to our own health but the health of our relationships, creates a lifestyle of movement and moments; share it all and social stroll.
